White background for passport and ID photos

Many ID, passport and visa photos ask for a plain white or light background. Remove the one behind you and replace it with white, in your browser and for free. Your photo stays on your device.
How to do it
1. Open the tool and choose your photo. The background is removed for you; if not, tap Remove background.
2. In the Background tab, pick White.
3. In the Crop tab, frame your head and shoulders; Fit to subject centers the person.
4. Open Download options and save as JPG, which gives a flat white background.
Before you submit
Rules differ by country and by agency: photo size, how large the face must be, the exact shade of the background and even the file size. Check the official requirements first. This tool prepares the background and the framing; it does not guarantee that a photo will be accepted.
Take the photo facing a window or a lamp, with no shadows on your face or behind you. It makes the cut-out cleaner around the hair and shoulders.
Fixing the edges
If a few strands of hair or part of a shoulder look wrong, open the Eraser tab: Erase takes away leftover background and Restore brings back parts that were cut by mistake. Smooth edges softens an outline that looks harsh.
